About Reuben

Reuben is a performance artist who currently runs his own Sacred Clown workshops (since 2004) and also privately for organisations wishing to bring their staff and clients into a more harmonious and creative relationship.

Since 1995 he has studied with Didier Danthois, director of the 'Fool at Heart School of Sacred Clowning'. This included a three year course 'The Sacred Clown as Healer' from 1996-98. They have worked together on a number of projects.

He has performed at a variety of venues from Street Festivals to Health Care and Educational settings. Reuben is a member of Equity and is fully insured.

In the past he trained as a visual artist and then worked in health care, both paid and voluntary. However the path of the Sacred Clown is where his heart lies.

In 1996, Reuben went to Russia with Dr Patch Adams of the Gesundheit Institute, USA. The trip really changed his life and opened up his eyes to the healing potential of the clown within hospitals and healthcare settings. He also did street theatre in unlikely places such as Red Square and the Metro. "Imagine walking past people sitting in the underground, waiting for their train, in whose eyes languish solitude, love, loneliness, shyness, indifference, and sadness. Imagine seeing the corner of their mouths lift as you slowly mirror their emotions and slowly they begin to smile."

"It was absolutely excellent. The calmness and gentleness with which you did everything and the depth of feeling. It was amazing what we achieved."
LH, Stroud.
"He led us from the busy world and clutter of our days and minds back to a gentle, quiet essence: hopeful, curious, shy, innocent, optimistic, a place where each of our clowns seemed free and happy to stand up, blink and smile."
Y. C. London
