About Reuben

Reuben is a performance artist with 13 years experience of studying with the School of Sacred Clowning run by Didier Danthois. This included completing a three year course 'The Sacred Clown as Healer' from 1996-98.

Reuben holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Emotional Education PGCEE from 2004-05 and a BA Degree in Fine Arts from 1983-86. He is a member of Holy Fools, Clowns International and Equity and currently runs workshops in mime and silent clowning.

In 2008, Clowns International gave him ‘The Trevarthen Award for Best White Face Clown.’

This year, from May 27 to June 2 and from July 20-26, Reuben will be assisting Didier Danthois on two workshops, entitled: ‘ClownCare Training  in Healthcare & Education.’

Didier and Reuben have performed and taught many workshops together, at prisons and schools for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Since 1995 he has performed at a variety of different venues, such as street festivals, on stage, shopping precincts and parks. During the past six years, this has included hospices, hospitals and care homes for the elderly.

In 1996 he went to Russia with Dr Patch Adams, of the Gesundheit Institute. The trip really changed his life and opened up his eyes to the healing potential of the clown within hospitals and healthcare settings.

Reuben also did street theatre in unlikely places such as Red Square and the Metro. Imagine walking past people sitting in the underground, waiting for their train, in whose eyes languish solitude, love, loneliness, shyness, indifference and sadness. Imagine seeing the corner of their mouth lift as you mirror their emotions and slowly they begin to smile
